Snälleröds Eric Berntson – A Swedish Spirits Veteran About Innovation In Tradition

I recently attended another tasting event from Spot And Tell, and this time me and a group of bloggers had the pleasure of meeting with one of the most experienced Swedish tradespeople in spirits – Eric Berntson. During the evening we tried five newly released different ecological “snaps” from Snälleröds, a type of liquor with heavy cultural significance here up north – and they were paired with exquisite pieces of traditional Swedish “smorgasbord” food.

But before the tasting event started I sat down with Eric to ask him about the craft of snaps/akvavit production, as well as the whole cultural background that explains how this delicious tradition came to be. And Eric had some very interesting insights to share…

Be sure to take a look at this interview to gleam into the mind of a person full of knowledge in the noble traditions surrounding our enjoyment of good food and drinks – I really appreciate getting the chance to sit down with such an expert as Eric. I’m sure you’ll learn a thing or two – I sure did!

Part 2:

Please comment below – I want to hear about your experiences of celebrating traditional festivities with traditional foods and drinks where you come from! And… maybe more questions you would have liked me to ask Eric?

Here’s my interview with the beer boss of Sweden – Joakim Losin, business manager at Carlsberg.

We had an interesting talk about making a career in beer, the state of beer business, about how the big breweries and smaller ones co-exist and complement each other… and of course I also picked his brain for some interesting tips about pairing food and beer! (Hint: Asian food + a certain Hoe-something brand… among other recommendations!)

This interview took place during the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival, a VERY exciting yearly event which I’ll make sure to cover more in the future…

Anyway, on to the videos – enjoy! And do tell me in the comments: how do YOU think we can improve to become the best video blog for beginners in food / drinks?

What’s the “Dream Bartender” Like? Report From Master Bartender

A week ago I was invited to a special event held by Pilsner Urquell at the newly opened gastro pub Queen’s Head here in Stockholm. The event was for “Master Bartender”, a competition for bartenders about the art of serving a Pilsner Urquell in a correct and knowledgeable way.

I learned some interesting historical facts during the presentation by representatives from the beer brand that preceded the actual competition, and I also got to talk with a couple of interesting people. Over to the videos, then!

First out is Ian Taylor, one of the three regional winners who is now a finalist in the national final (which will take place during the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival). This is a talk about passion for beer and being a bartender – what is really the secret of being the best you can be in your occupation? Regardless of your line of work I’m sure you’ll find this interesting!

Next up is an interview with Majsan Johansson, winner of last year’s Master Bartender in Sweden. She has a fascinating story behind her own passion for food, and in the second clip she also gives her best recommendations of what foods to pair with Pilsner Urquell:

Chocolate / licorice importer Benny Eriksson – History, Trends and Traditions

Hey guys! Welcome to the 4th episode of Bar-deli.TV! Last weekend we went to a big food fair in Gothenburg, and here comes the first of two interviews we did there. (EDIT: unfortunately the second video we did was of unusable quality due to excessive background noise. Sorry Scandchoco, we’ll get back to you later!) We also met many more interesting people, so we’ll definitely go there soon again for some follow-up.

Anyway, on to the show! I have to say this first though – I apologize for the really low and background-noisy sound in this interview!! The setting of a fair with LOTS of people rustling just a few feet from the iphone (which I’m using to film) wasn’t really ideal, BUT there’s some great content here so I hope at least you chocolate afficionados can enjoy it despite the “technicalities”…

As always, I’ll be happy for any comments! See you soon…
